Each winter, Precision Planting’s PTx Winter Conference brings farmers, dealers, and agronomy leaders together in Tremont, IL. The event has become a showcase for practical precision tools that focus on execution in the field, not just data collection. This year’s conference put the spotlight on planting accuracy and smarter spraying, with ArrowTube, SymphonyVision Duo, and SmokeRow all drawing strong interest.
ArrowTube Brings Seed Orientation Into Focus
ArrowTube represents a significant evolution in seed delivery. Rather than simply dropping seed into the furrow, the system actively manages both spacing and orientation as the seed moves from the meter to the soil. ArrowTube is designed to place corn seeds tip down while orienting the embryo sideways.
This orientation plays a meaningful role in early crop development. Tip-down placement gives the emerging plant a more direct path to the soil surface, helping reduce delays that can lead to uneven emergence. Sideways embryo orientation encourages leaves to grow across the row instead of along it, improving early light interception and supporting more uniform canopy development.
ArrowTube is also built to maintain accurate spacing at higher planting speeds. As farmers continue to cover more acres in tighter planting windows, maintaining consistency while increasing speed has become critical. The intent behind ArrowTube is to deliver stronger early vigor and more uniform stands without sacrificing efficiency.
SymphonyVision Duo Expands the Role of Smart Spraying
On the application side, SymphonyVision Duo showcases how spray technology continues to evolve beyond simple on/off control. The retrofit system combines camera-based weed detection with two separate solution paths and nozzle systems. This allows a sprayer to spot-spray contact herbicide only where weeds are detected while simultaneously broadcasting a second tank mix across the entire field.
In practice, farmers can apply residual herbicides, fertilizers, or other products broadly while using real-time vision to target emerged weeds with contact chemistry. By separating these applications, SymphonyVision Duo helps reduce chemical use and improve efficiency without requiring additional passes through the field.
Designed as a retrofit, the system allows farmers to upgrade existing sprayers rather than replace them. The goal is to make better use of tank capacity and time while improving weed control precision during a single field trip.
SmokeRow Targets the Areas Beyond the Boom
Precision Planting also demonstrated SmokeRow at the Winter Conference, building on interest generated since its initial reveal late last year. SmokeRow addresses a common challenge in spraying by extending coverage beyond the boom’s physical width.
The system adds dedicated nozzles at the ends of the boom that spray outward, allowing operators to control weeds along field edges, waterways, terraces, and other boundary areas that are often missed or inconsistently treated. SmokeRow draws from a secondary solution tank, giving farmers flexibility in product selection without interfering with the main spray mix.
By targeting these edge zones more effectively, SmokeRow helps improve overall weed control while reducing the need for follow-up passes or manual spot treatment. It is a complementary tool that fits naturally alongside systems like SymphonyVision Duo for more complete field coverage.
Practical Precision With Immediate Impact
The overarching theme from this year’s PTx Winter Conference was practicality. ArrowTube, SymphonyVision Duo, and SmokeRow all reflect Precision Planting’s focus on retrofit solutions that deliver measurable improvements using equipment farmers already own.
With better seed placement at planting, smarter and more efficient spraying during the season, and improved control in hard-to-reach areas, the technologies highlighted in Tremont reinforce a clear message. Precision agriculture is increasingly about execution in the field and helping farmers get more out of every acre they manage.
