Precision Planting has introduced DrySet Air, a new electric metering system for air seeders that aims to improve seed placement accuracy while helping growers detect blockages and other issues before they impact large portions of a field.

Designed as a retrofit for select John Deere air carts, DrySet Air replaces traditional fluted meters with electrically driven meters that provide more precise seed control. The system integrates with Precision Planting’s 20|20 monitor, bringing real-time monitoring, section control, turn compensation, and variable-rate capabilities to air seeding operations.

Bringing Electric Metering to Air Seeders

At the heart of DrySet Air is an electric meter designed to deliver seed more consistently than conventional mechanical metering systems. By individually controlling seed delivery, the system is intended to maintain accurate application rates across varying field conditions.

The electric metering system also gives operators greater visibility into how the machine is performing throughout the day. Instead of relying primarily on post-pass inspections, growers can monitor seed delivery in real time and respond more quickly if problems develop.

Detecting Problems Before They Become Costly

One of DrySet Air’s headline features is its ability to identify blockages and other delivery issues as they occur. Early detection allows operators to stop and correct problems before planting significant additional acreage.

The system also includes section control to reduce overlaps and turn compensation, automatically adjusting seed delivery as the implement travels through curves and headlands. In addition, DrySet Air supports multiple variable-rate prescriptions from separate product tanks, allowing growers to apply different rates where needed across the field.

All of these functions are managed through Precision Planting’s 20|20 display, giving operators a single interface for monitoring meter performance, seed flow, and application accuracy.

Built as a Retrofit

Rather than requiring growers to purchase an entirely new air seeding system, DrySet Air is designed to upgrade existing equipment. The initial rollout supports select John Deere air carts, giving producers an opportunity to add precision features to machines already in their fleet.

Precision Planting says the system is available in limited quantities for the 2027 planting season in both the United States and Canada. Pricing starts at approximately $20,000 per tank for growers who already own a compatible 20|20 monitor.

Expanding Precision Planting’s Reach

Precision Planting built its reputation by developing aftermarket technology for row crop planters, and DrySet Air continues that strategy by expanding into air seeding. As more growers look to improve accuracy without replacing entire machines, retrofit technologies like DrySet Air offer another path to modernizing existing equipment.

With planting windows remaining narrow and every acre becoming more valuable, technologies that improve seed placement while helping operators identify problems sooner are likely to draw attention from growers looking to get more from their current equipment.
